In 2005, my trusty console tape deck finally crapped out. It had lived a long, hard life since I acquired it back in 1995. In those ten years, the deck had moved quite a bit, residing in 3 states, 2 dorm rooms, and 9 apartments. To add insult to injury, both Mary's and my Walkman(men?) were subsequently stolen. Now, not only could I not make my beloved mix tapes, we couldn't even listen to the ones in our possession.
So to honor this format, one more that is quickly becoming antiquated, I decided to put together a Mix honoring both It and the Summertime. Summer was chosen, as it was the current season we were residing in. To make this project even more special we were able to wrangle songs and words from many of our friends. As difficult as it can be at times, I really love collaborating with as many people as possible.
Soon the songs were assembled into a moderately logical and pleasing sequence, and ready to be disseminated in an easily accessible format. This was facilitated by 5inch.com, which provided the blank CDs that truly honor the Tape. Once the CDs were burned, liner notes printed, and packages finished, the mixes were sent off to the participants.
I hope very much to make this an ongoing project, as there are so many different and unique musical palates to be shared.
